The Black Dahlia Murder / Unearth

Japan is being invaded by two of the biggest American metal bands at the end of May. The Black Dahlia Murder and Unearth will being a total of three shows in Japan at Club Quatttro in Osaka (Shinsaibashi), Tokyo (Shibuya) and Nagoya. Tickets are ¥6,800 advance and ¥7,300 at the door. Tickets for all shows are still available so get out and bang your head.

The opening act is a Japanese band called Each of the Days from Nagoya. I have more to write about Each of The Days, but I’ll save that for the next post.

California’s sludge metal gods, Black Cobra, are heading to Japan in the fall. I’m not sure with whom they will be playing with besides Coffins on the 27th, but no doubt, they will be touring with some heavy bands.

Also, the times on their MySpace may be incorrect. 8pm is kind of a late start, so I would shoot for around 6pm or 6:30.

Osaka’s Stubborn Father is putting on a show with Fortitude and Mortalized et al. in a venue that I believe is far too small to hold all the thrashing that needs to be going on at this show. I saw them play with Mind of Asian and the stage presence of their vocalist Shige alone warrants every show of theirs a must-see.

As posted earlier, Sunn O)) is playing at the Leave Them All Behind event in Tokyo, but they are also playing a few more shows before flying off to Oslo. As to be expected, tickets are pretty expensive, but be sure to check them out.

I had the pleasure of seeing Osaka’s Ha-Gakure play with envy last March and I was totally blown away. Actually, I don’t know how to define the style of music these four talented guys play. I’m not one to pigeonhole bands into strict categories, but for the purpose of tagging this post, I find myself coming up short. Their instrumentation is not too far removed from post-rock, but their vocalist (or MC as the band defines his role as), Yasuhide Takayama, raps(?) over the band. Yeah, I know that sounds weird. Perhaps borderline unpleasant. Honestly, my words cannot do this band justice so just go to their myspace. I highly recommend this band, especially to fans of the recent split releases from envy.

Tokyo’s genre bending School Food Punishment will release their new single called Futuristic Imagination on May 27th for ¥1,223. For about ¥200 more, you can purchase the single with some sort of DVD included. I don’t know what will be on the DVD, but I’m guessing it has something to do with the anime 東のエデン (Eden of the East),  as the song is used as its ending theme.

Anime stuff aside, School Food Punishment has four shows planned, although most of them are (not surprisingly) in Tokyo.
